Nutrient Management Planning

All cranberry growers need to follow the nutrient management regulations of the state of Massachusetts. These regulations are administered by the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources. The UMass Cranberry Station Chart Book is the guiding principle for complying with the regulations. In that book are the total amounts of nutrients allowed (no more than 20 pounds of Phosphorous/acre/year, unless specific conditions warrant differently as outlined in the Chart Book), a consistent regime of soil and/or tissue testing and record keeping. The record keeping requirements are listed below.

Record Keeping Requirements:

(a) Name of Applicator;
(b) Date of application;
(c) Address or location description of the application site;
(d) Soil Test results for the property or Management Unit;
(e) Name of product applied;
(f) Size of the area on which the application is made;
(g) Representative nutrient value or analyzed values, or guaranteed analysis;
(h) Method and rate of application; and
(i) Total amount used.

For those growers that would still like to have a nutrient management plan or an online location to keep your fertilizer records, create work orders, save tissue and soil tests and more, consider using the BOGS Online Grower System, available as a yearly subscription through CCCGA
